Safe AI for Kids: How We Think About Safeguarding

An AI that talks to children needs serious safeguards. Here's our approach — including what we will NOT do.

Building AI for children is not the same as building AI for adults. The stakes are higher and the safeguards must be deeper.

Max Claw's chatbot uses content filters tuned for children's safety, plus a system prompt that explicitly prevents medical, legal, or psychological diagnosis. If a learner expresses distress (bullying, self-harm, abuse), the AI is trained to acknowledge them, encourage them to talk to a trusted adult, and surface a counsellor escalation path — never to play therapist.

We will NOT use AI to diagnose depression, ADHD, dyslexia, or any clinical condition. Our 'Special Needs module' provides adapted learning paths designed by qualified educators and therapists — it does not replace professional assessment.

Parent dashboards show all chat transcripts. Children know their conversations are visible. Privacy of the child is balanced against the right of the parent to safeguard them.

Safety isn't a feature. It's the floor.
