Learn signs. Read clearly.
Built for Deaf & hard-of-hearing learners.
South African Sign Language (SASL) is now an official language of South Africa. We've also included American Sign Language (ASL) lessons because most free open AI sign-recognition models are trained on ASL today. Plus accessibility tools to help every learner.
Honest update on camera-based sign recognition
- • Almost all open AI sign-recognition models today are trained on American Sign Language (ASL).
- • Real-time SASL camera recognition needs a custom-trained ML model and lots of SASL video data — that free dataset doesn't exist yet.
- • What we ship today: SASL & ASL learning videos, text-to-speech, large captions, and a homework helper that replies in clear written English.
- • When trustworthy SASL recognition models exist, we'll plug them right into this page.
Read aloud (text-to-speech)
Paste any text — homework, a passage, an instruction — and Max will read it aloud. Helpful for hard-of-hearing learners who use hearing aids, and for anyone learning to read.
Your browser doesn't support speech synthesis. Try Chrome, Edge or Safari.
Large captions mode
Make all the text on this page bigger and easier to read. You can also turn on a high-contrast caption box for any sentence you paste in the box above.
Sign your question on video — Max replies in simple English
Record yourself signing, or upload a short clip. Then type what you signed in 1–2 short sentences. Max reads your typed question and answers in clear written English (Grade 5 reading level).

What happens to my video?Tap to read · your video stays privateShow
- Your video never leaves your device. It is held only in your browser's memory while you preview it — we do not upload, store, or send it to any server (including ours or any AI provider).
- Only the question you type is sent to Max so he can reply. The video itself is never shared.
- Auto-deleted when you tap Delete my recording, Start over, refresh the page, or close the tab.
- No tracking, no facial recognition, no biometrics. We do not analyse your face or hands.
- If you are under 18, please ask a parent or teacher before recording — and never include your full name, school, address, or phone number in the video.
Record or upload a signed video

Why type after signing?
Real-time SASL camera recognition isn't reliable yet. So after your video, we ask you to type the question you just signed in 1–2 short sentences. Max reads your typed words and answers in clear written English.
This keeps Deaf and hard-of-hearing learners in control — and the moment trustworthy SASL recognition exists, we'll do the typing for you.
